Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Achievement in Minnesota

AAPI learners make up a growing share of our student population and are a great asset to our state. Yet, too often they fall behind their classmates, as well as their AAPI peers across the country: Nationally, Minnesota ranks 46th for AAPI high school graduation and is home to one of the largest white-AAPI proficiency gaps for fourth-grade reading.

But much is being done to change these odds. In the report, we feature three schools which are using innovative strategies—from engaging families to celebrating students' native language and culture—to help their AAPI learners thrive:

  • Noble Academy in Brooklyn Park;
  • Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet School in St. Paul; and
  • Weaver Elementary School in Maplewood.

Read our report here to learn promising practicies from these schools and policy recommendations that could scale up their success!
